Publication of the specialist book "Data Medicine"
In April 2024, the specialist book "Data Medicine: Telemonitoring of health data in home environments and in care" was published by Springer Verlag and authored by Prof. Dr. Farhan, medical director of FIA.
The book describes, based on the project "DataHealth Burbach – Monitoring of vital data to support healthcare in rural areas using the example of Burbacher Hickengrund," how healthcare in rural areas can be relieved with the help of digital technologies. The project is managed by the "Digital Model Region Health Dreiländereck" (DMGD), where Prof. Dr. Farhan is part of the research team. Together with general practitioners, hospitals, nursing facilities, as well as districts and municipalities in the tri-border region of Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, and North Rhine-Westphalia, DMGD tested technical solutions for comprehensive healthcare. Based on these studies, the textbook provides practical insights into the integration of innovative, health economic procedures such as telemonitoring and self-monitoring. The focus is on concrete recommendations for healthcare institutions to establish modern telemedical procedures. The strategies and solutions presented aim to maintain healthcare at a high level despite the impending shortage of skilled professionals, particularly in rural regions.
